Here is the lastest prgramme..I'll  post the AGM food menu here soon as well. There is a change for the June event, its now a visit to the Wheal Tor Inn...on the site of the East Caradon Mine.                    

Trevithick Society East Cornwall Branch Programme

Trevithick Day Saturday: 30^th April down Camborne and Sunday 1^st May Open Day at King Edward Mine, at Troon, nr Camborne - lots of steam in action, engines everywhere and live museum.

The AGM

Being run in our area this year, a weekend of events and a chance to meet other members.

Friday 13^th  May

Talk and walk by Martin Summers on the site of The South East Cornwall Gunpowder Works.

Meet at cafe 7 pm  , Herodsfoot, Deer Park Holiday Camp, PL14 4QY OS – SX 197 604. Please wear stout shoes. The terrain is variable. Part of the walk is gentle, with paths, and part is rough with forest track. Parking is available on site, in a small car park on approach road, and outside the site office.

Saturday 14^th May

Visit to Herodsfoot Mine

Meet at 10.00am at Liskeard Station Lower Car Park for mini bus transportation to North Herodsfoot Mine. There is no parking available in this steep sided valley, or at landowners home, hence free transportation has been arranged. Please bring pack lunch and drink. Please wear stout shoes as terrain can be rough, and be respectful of Richard and Francis’s property and home. We plan to vacate the site at approx 2.30pm

Saturday, 14th. May. A.G.M. at Hannafore Point Hotel. West Looe 5-00pm.

Annual Dinner at the hotel 7pm...…see menu and booking forms.

Sunday 15^th May

Visit to Devon Great Consols Mine 10.30 am – meet at Wheal Josiah chimney.

Guide- Rick Stewart, mine manager at Morwellham and well known author on local history and mining Map grid SX 42595 73557, meeting at the chimney.       

June 11^th East Caradon Mine talk-walk and social.

Talk by John Manley: Fortune or fraud? A year in the life of the East Caradon Mine,

 Followed by the chance to have some refreshments and lunch and then a exploration of the mine.

Meet at the Wheal Tor Hotel, near Tokenbury Corner, Pensilva at 1030 SX279 696

Saturday 29^th October walk 10.30am to approx 3.30pm. Introducing Wheel Benny- A guided walk around the Luckett area by Steve Docksey, experienced guide and local historian. Car parking in the village is very limited, and so not to create too much disturbance to the village, a meeting point in a car park suitably close is to be arranged, (details to follow), car sharing to the village of Luckett will then ease the parking in the village and show respect for those that live there.

The AGM Programme

Here's the lastes list of events for the AGM weekend, its being run in our area this year. There is a meal and social at the hotel after the AGM....we will post more info on that when we find out more details.

13^th  May

Talk and walk by Martin Summers on the site of The South East Cornwall Gunpowder Works.

 Directions: OS – SX 197 604.

There are many different routes- one is via East Tap House, then turn onto B3359, then signposted Herodsfoot. Please bring a map. The sign posts cannot be trusted in the lanes (get re-positioned) if coming from the Liskeard direction.

Within the holiday camp industrial reminders remain which help tell us about the importance of this site which was  the longest running gun powder works in Cornwall.

 Martin Summers is an experienced guide who has explained the story of this hidden valley for many years within his role as guide and ranger for the Forestry Commission.

Please wear stout shoes. The terrain is variable. Part of the walk is gentle, with paths, and part is rough with forest track.

 Parking is available on site, in a small car park on approach road, and outside the site office.

Chalet style self catering accommodation is also available on site should you choose to stay here and make a weekend or week break. Please contact 0845 130 8224                                                 

 Note of advice, some hillside chalets are only accessed by a flight of steps.

The site has rich industrial remains, with an ‘old’ engine house, new engine house, boiler house, crusher house and magazine which offer great interest.

Please bring pack lunch and drink. Please wear stout shoes as terrain can be rough, and be respectful of Richard and Francis’s property and home.

We plan to vacate the site at approx 2.30pm

Annual General Meeting to be held at 5pm at Hannaford Hotel, Looe.

Sunday 15^th May

Directions for the meeting place are, take the Tavistock to Gunnislake road A390, until you come to the roundabout at Gulworthy. Take the northerly exit towards Lamerton. Travel along this road until you reach a junction with a triangle on the left marked to Rubytown & Wheal Josiah. Take this road and follow it straight down, it will become a dirt track, after you pass the Wheal Josiah cottages the track splits, follow it around to the left until you reach the chimney.
