The talk will be covering the mines around ludcott-Glasgow Caradon, Wheal Caradon, Cardon Vale, Great Caradon and North Ludcott.

I've managed to get some copies of the Society's new Webb and Geach's Book on the Liskeard Mining District. We'll bring some along to the East Caradon meeting for sale with a discount for members,  at a price of £10. Non members £10.99

More Shots from the AGM, Herodsfoot Mine

Here's a couple pictures from the Herodsfoot mine visit, taken bt Martin Summers, (Our guide on the Friday visit to the gunpowder works).

Richard and Frances, the mines's owners were excellent hosts, thanks for the tea and cake and Richard's amd Kinglsey's tour of this wonderfull site gave the members plenty to  to think about and ponder.

This is a site where more is being discovered on a monthly basis and Richard restores the buidlings and researches its history. If any one has information or documantation about the mine's history they would like to share  then we will  gladly pass them on to Richard.

Heres the latest update.
We now have a chance to go underground in Menheniot. Its a small little known mine, but it has a  nice safe walk in, good surface underfoot and even lights!  Also on the 25th of May we will be giving  a talk for the Pensilva History Society. 7:30 at the millenium hall. It will be about the mines sorrounding the village, the society have invited TS members along.

Tuesday 20th September Liskeard Public Hall 7.30pm- A talk by author Rick Stewart (The mining expert on the TV series  “An Edwardian Farm” ) on Fire-setting the ancient way of breaking rocks before explosives

Saturday 29^th October walk 10.30am to approx 3.30pm. Introducing Wheel Benny- A guided walk from Luckett by Steve Docksey, experienced guide and local historian. Car parking in the village is very limited, and so not to create too much disturbance to the village we will meet at the Engine House Tea Room at Compton Park.( PL17 8EA. SX370 704) to share cars. On completion of the walk we will meet back up at the tea room for refreshments.

Tuesday 22^nd November 7.30pm Liskeard Public Hall- Machinery and Men of Dartmoor, Tin Mines 100 Years Ago- an illustrated talk by the author Tom Greeves.

March 2012: Visit to West Mary Ann Mine at Menheniot. A rare chance to go underground in a local mine. Dates, times will be confirmed on the next programme.

The 2011 AGM at Devon Great Consols

What a great weekend for the AGM, Gunpowder works, Hidden mines ,humongeous great mine, Great meal with a great view, coffee and fish an chips in an engine house, mini bus roaming the Cornish lanes...and excellent company. Thanks for Martin, Richard and Rick for excellent walks, talks and hospitality. Here's the first of the photos of the weekend...more to follow.  This is the first of some shots. At Devon Great Consols, at the base of one of the spectacular waste tips, Rick Stewart explaining the facintainating tale of arsenic at the mine.

And the sun shone! Here's Rick telling another facinating tale of DGC, before we launched off into the woods.

 The Society goes cross country to see the amazing flat rod tower in the woods. For those that bypassed the off road detour here's the tower.

Good news is that Rick has offered a repeat visit to Devon Great Consols to explore the western end of the workings, so watch this blog for a programme update to catch the date. He is also giving us a talk at Liskeard on firesetting, see the latest programme on this blog for details. And even more exciting is that  his book on DGC is on its way, we'll keep you updated when it is due to hit the shelves.

Programme update May 2011..details in of a few more events

The Agm is almost here, see the earlier blogs for details of the events over the weekend. If you havn't booked your meal yet can you pass in your chits ASAP.

Daves Moorcroft tour is now in...a rare chance to visit a working quarry and maybe also capture some shots of future Industrial archeology. Rick has re-booked his firesetting talk (now a TV star!!!;-), Wheal Tour has offerd us the chance to have a talk, walk and pint...John Gander is out hunting for remains for us at East Caradon...so we should have a good poke around. And as you can see we are finishing the year off with a Tom Greeves talk.....so spread the word and enjoy.  I will be posting more details of some of the nearest events soon.

Talks and walks -. Friday 13^th eve a visit to Deer Park, Herodsfoot , the site of East Cornwall’s gunpowder works. Saturday 14^th- a surface walk around the remains of North Herodsfoot Mine , 15^th Sunday- surface walk around Devon Great Consols.

Fortune or Fraud?-A year in the life of the East Caradon Mine. A talk, walk and pint (or Coffe) by John Manley and John Gander . Meet at the Wheal Tor Inn (Near Pensilva at Tokenbury Corner SX 277 701) at 1030. There will be a talk in the Inn followed by an exploration of the remains of East Caradon Mine. For those that wish, there will be an opportunity for a meal or snack at the Inn afterwards.

NB.Car parking in the village is very limited, and so not to create too much disturbance to the village, a meeting point in a car park suitably close is to be arranged, (details to follow), car sharing to the village of Luckett will then ease the parking in the village and show respect for those that live there..
