East Cornwall Branch Programme April 2015

Here is an updated programme for the East Cornwall Branch. Two talks have been swapped around and a new event added in September. 

14th April:7:30pm Liskeard Public Hall(Long Room)
Industrial Archaeology of South Georgia – The remains of the whaling industry at Grytvikn.  A talk by John Manley and Tracy Elliott.

16^th  May
Walk- Exploring the Luxulyan Valley-By the friends of the Luxulyan Valley
Meet at Ponts Mill Car Park. 11am. Bring packed lunch. Walk will be about 2½ to 3 hours long. 

16^th May

Trevithick Society AGM (late afternoon) and meal (Evening)- Camborne. Times to be confirmed.

 17^th May

Trevithick Society AGM field trips-Camborne area. Details to be confirmed.

 June 23^rd 7:30pm Liskeard Public Hall(Long Room) 

The Cornish Connection-The shipping trade between Cornwall and South Wales.
A talk by Dr. Tregidga of the Cornish Studies Institute, Exeter University.

An Exploration of The Northern Quarries of Kit Hill 
A walk by Steve Docksey. Meet at the northern incline car park.

 September 5th 11AM  Date to be confirmed

Visit to the Herodsfoot Gunpowder works remains at Deer Park Forest Holidays. A chance to view some newly discovered Edwardian Artifacts, and view the industrial archeology. Meet at the Cafe.

Arsenic- A facinating talk about a facinating subject- 17th March 2015 at Liskeard

Arsenic its production and use.  

A talk by Kingsley Rickard about this fascinating mineral

Come along to learn more about the history of arsenic and its production in Cornwall and Devon. Non-members welcome (£2 door donation), tea, refreshments and nibbles available for the post talk mingle.

The Road to Messines-Underground warfare on the Western front 1915-1917

17th February: 7:30pm at the  Liskeard Public Hall (in the Long Room)

A talk by the author Rick Stewart on World War 1 tunnels and trenches.

This months talk is a completely new topic area for the East Cornwall Trevithick Society Branch; the amazing story of underground warfare in the Great War. So if you are interested in mining history, or military history this will be a fascinating evening.

Non members welcome (£2 Door donation).

Tea, coffee and the normal array of biccys will be available

Come along for an evening of pre-Christmas fun with the East Cornwall Branch of the Trevithick Society . A quiz (with a Cornish history slant), composed and hosted by Richard Humphrey. 

You are welcome to bring along a friend (or two), and if you wish, a supply of nibbles and refreshments.
