Programme update May 2011..details in of a few more events

The Agm is almost here, see the earlier blogs for details of the events over the weekend. If you havn't booked your meal yet can you pass in your chits ASAP.

Daves Moorcroft tour is now in...a rare chance to visit a working quarry and maybe also capture some shots of future Industrial archeology. Rick has re-booked his firesetting talk (now a TV star!!!;-), Wheal Tour has offerd us the chance to have a talk, walk and pint...John Gander is out hunting for remains for us at East Caradon...so we should have a good poke around. And as you can see we are finishing the year off with a Tom Greeves talk.....so spread the word and enjoy.  I will be posting more details of some of the nearest events soon.


Weekend of 13th, 14th, and 15th May- AGM , members only
Talks and walks -. Friday 13^th eve a visit to Deer Park, Herodsfoot , the site of East Cornwall’s gunpowder works. Saturday 14^th- a surface walk around the remains of North Herodsfoot Mine , 15^th Sunday- surface walk around Devon Great Consols.

Saturday 11^th June 10.30am-

Fortune or Fraud?-A year in the life of the East Caradon Mine. A talk, walk and pint (or Coffe) by John Manley and John Gander . Meet at the Wheal Tor Inn (Near Pensilva at Tokenbury Corner SX 277 701) at 1030. There will be a talk in the Inn followed by an exploration of the remains of East Caradon Mine. For those that wish, there will be an opportunity for a meal or snack at the Inn afterwards.

Saturday 16^th July 10:30am

Moorcroft Quarry Visit-A rare chance to visit a working limestone quarry, Organised by Dave Warne. Meet at the quarry entrance off the A379 at Billacombe roundabout-Plympton. SX520 538. Stout footwear to be worn.

 

Tuesday 20th September Liskeard Public Hall 7.30pm-  A talk by author Rick Stewart on Fire-setting the ancient way of breaking rocks before explosives.

Saturday 29th October walk 10.30am to approx 3.30pm. Introducing Wheel Benny- A guided walk around the Luckett area by Steve Docksey, experienced guide and local historian.

NB.Car parking in the village is very limited, and so not to create too much disturbance to the village, a meeting point in a car park suitably close is to be arranged, (details to follow), car sharing to the village of Luckett will then ease the parking in the village and show respect for those that live there..

Tuesday 22^nd November 7.30pm Liskeard Public Hall- Machinery and Men of Dartmoor, Tin Mines 100 Years Ago- an illustrated talk by author Tom Greeves.
